June 14, 2015 - A Perfect Idaho Day

Yesterday, Garrett drove Jack, Blake and I up to Cascade, Idaho to spend the afternoon fishing.  We left at 5:30 AM, and stopped to take lots of pictures along the way.

I have always driven through Cascade to go to other destinations, but this was the first time I stopped and explored the area.  Cascade is located in the Boise National Forest.  That is 2.5 million acres of gorgeous Idaho all around.  There are 9,600 miles of rivers and streams, scattered with 15,400 acres of lakes and reservoirs, and beautiful mountains with elevations of up to 9,730 feet.  In other words...so many recreation areas to explore!

The town of Cascade is adorable.  Jack and I have decided that we definitely want to move there in 2017 when it comes time to buy a home.  I can't imagine living anywhere else.  It is only 1 1/2 hours to Boise. Even Blake thought he would love to live in Cascade as well.

Our plan was to go to Horsethief Reservoir to do our fishing.  The problem is, there is no marker for the turn onto the road leading to the reservoir other than a tattered old street sign.  So we missed it, and ended up driving for miles until we stumbled upon Warm Lake.  Warm Lake is gorgeous!  We ran into a park ranger at Warm Lake who said the fishing had not been great, so we headed back to Horsethief.

Horsethief is stunning. The boys put a blanket under a tree for Miss Lilly and I, and they went out on the dock to fish.  The weather was perfect, breezy and sunny.  Miss Lilly and I enjoyed a picnic, and watching all the wildlife on the edge of the water.  There were hawks and Bald Eagles flying overhead too.  It was truly an awesome day.

By the time we doubled back to Horsethief, it was pretty late in the day for good fishing, so the guys were not catching anything.  Just before we were ready to leave, a lady fishing next to Blake put a worm and a marshmallow on his fish hook.  He cast it out, and seconds later hooked a gorgeous 14 1/2 inch late trout.  We were so happy that he caught a fish.  We brought it home, and I baked it in the oven.  It was delicious!

We can't wait to go back.  Next time we will do an overnight camping trip, and bring Casey, Brandon, Amber, Cooper and Penny.  That would be the perfect trip! :)

Some photos from today...

A stop along the Payette River at sunrise.

Along the drive we noticed a beautiful pond with fog hovering just above the water.  A gorgeous spot for pictures.  A beautiful Idaho sunrise!

This is Warm Lake.  A gorgeous spot in the mountains for camping and fishing. They even have a swimming beach.

We drove past hundreds of acres of burned forest from the Yellow Pine forest fires a couple of years ago.  Lightning sparked fires burned over 35,000 acres in Idaho that year.

 Beautiful Horsethief Reservoir.

Some video I made of the day.  :)

My Beautiful Idaho!

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

Peace.
