August 28, 2015 - Family Nights are Fun Nights

Yesterday we enjoyed a lovely family night.  Granddaughter Penny had a visit with the doctor here in Boise, so they were able to stop by to visit me on the way home.

It was wonderful to see and hug them.  Amber, always the thoughtful one, brought all her baking supplies so she could bake a belated birthday cake for Blake.  Brandon had to go to work in the evening, so unfortunately he could not stay for cake.  It was great to have a short visit with my awesome son and get in a great big hug.  "I love you, Brandon!"

We enjoyed some time in the garden, eating fresh, warm summer tomatoes right off the vine, and visiting with the chickens. I enjoyed visiting with Amber and the children.  It has been entirely too long since the last visit.  I love them so much.  <3

Brandon is such an amazing father, and Amber is the most loving and nurturing mommy.  I am very proud of both of them!

In other news...
Back-to-school has been a smashing success for Blake!  He is going to have a great year.

Blake: "Mom, let's see how long we can toss the frisbee till it drops."
Me: "Sounds good son. We should be able to make it to 100. Go!"
Blake: "1, 2, 3...drop. Damn, wind interference."
Blake: "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7...drop. Damn bug got in the way!"
Blake: "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10...drop. Chickens! Move!"
Me: "5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100!"
Blake: "Mom...dude, that is cheating."
Me: "Honey, no, that is mom counting. I win!" 

LOL, I love this kid.  :)

August 23, 2015 - Good-Bye Summer Vacation!

We have really enjoyed our last week of Summer Vacation.  Blake starts school tomorrow, and all the excitement that comes with that.

This past week was very smoky outside due to all the wild fires burning in the northwest, so other than some time in the garden and with the chickens, it was an "inside" sort of week.  Video games it was!

We started Super Mario 3D world on WiiU, and enjoyed a daily session of serious gaming.  Garrett joined us a couple of times, and it was grade-A hilarious!  Let me just say, the phrase of the week was..."Let me get the cat suit!"  More pronounced kad-zoooot.  lol  It was fun, and oh so funny.

My tomatoes are coming in nice and strong.  One night Blake asked me..."What is for dinner mom?" My response..."Tomatoes."  It is a good thing we love tomatoes!  This first year of serious gardening has gone very well for me.  Tomatoes and summer squash have been a smashing success.  Next year I want a huge variety of all my favorite stuff.  I am excited to plan my fall garden too.

My henny pennys are doing well.  Thelma seems to be just about healed from whatever her injury was.  She still has a slight limp, but is getting around much better.  We are still waiting on eggs though.  Garrett has decided that he has to be the one who discovers the first egg.  I think that would be awesome.  I had to laugh the other day because unbeknownst to him I had placed a fake egg in the nesting box so the girls would know where I want them to lay their eggs.  This fake egg looks and feels very real.  When Garrett discovered it, he got so excited!  lol

Today Casey and his girlfriend Brianna took Blake back-to-school shopping.  They bought him a nice Vans backpack. and a very cool hoodie.  "Thank you Casey!"  I have the best sons on the planet.  :)

Last day of summer vacation.  We spent the evening in the garden picking dem 'maters.  :)
It is always exciting to go outside and see all these lovely red treasures, hanging in a sea of green leaves. I love gardening! 

For dinner I baked some summer squash from the garden, made some macaroni and cheese, chipotle sausage, and added fresh tomatoes and cucumber also from the garden.  It was delicious!

May the new chapter commence!  We are ready.  :)

August 16, 2015 - Last Week of Summer Vacation

Only one more full week until school starts for Blake.  I am both excited for him, and a bit sad for me.  I enjoy my long summer lazy days with my Blake.  <3

This past week was a great one.  Blake enjoyed his 14th birthday, and the weather was reasonably good.  Fire season is in full swing so the air quality has not been great.  I really hate fire season.

All is great in my world.  Even Thelma the chicken is feeling better.  She is getting around a lot easier, and that makes me so happy.  No eggs yet, but it should be any day now.
