July 31, 2015 - Good-Bye July!

I can't believe it is August already!  Blake will be 14 this month, school starts back up, and summer is almost over!  The only thing I am happy about is that summer is almost over, as Autumn is my favorite season.

It gets too quiet around here when Blake goes back to school.  I am excited for him to begin a new year, but I will miss the daily noise that is Blake.  He is planning on taking photography as an elective in school this year, so I will be giving him my Canon T3.  I never use it since getting the Nikon, and it is the perfect camera for him.  He is such a natural when it comes to photography.  He has a great eye, just like his brothers.

The garden continues to grow well.  Even though I thought the cucumber had been choked out by the beans and squash, I discovered some baby cucumbers growing.  I was so excited to find them! My transplanted peppers are doing well too.  Yay!

I want to keep my garden going for as long as possible.  There is nothing better than fresh produce. Veggies are my favorite food.

The chickens should start laying soon too.  They are growing and doing well.  Thelma is still a little wobbly from her injury...whatever it was.  She hobbles around a bit like I do.  I think that is why I love her so much.  But she is walking and eating fine.

Here are some pictures from my world this week...

Case brought his girlfriend home to meet mama.  Very sweet young lady.  Nice to meet you Brianna!  :)
Baby cucumbers!
My beautiful...and delicious...tomatoes.

I love new growth.  It is looking very healthy.
Beautiful flowers.

 And silly ones.

The lovely Miss Lilly.  :)
Blue moon this evening.  Although I have to say...there is nothing blue about this moon.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone, and welcome to August!

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

Peace.

July 26, 2015 - Loving This Cool Weather!

It was so beautifully cool today.  The temperature was in the mid to low 80's, with a delightful breeze.  It was perfect!  I know it is short-lived for this time of year.  We will be back in the upper 90's by the end of the week I am sure.  The temperature today made me excited for Autumn.  :)

Another great week for the record books, and we are looking forward to a great week ahead.

Enjoying a day in the garden with Blake, the chickens and the dogs.

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

Peace.

July 22, 2015 - Gardening Can Be Stressful!

I thought gardening was supposed to be a relaxing hobby?  Gardening can be downright stressful when you care too much.  Today I walked outside to check my main garden, and it looked like the Jolly Green Giant had gone stomping through it!

My main tomato plant was on the ground.  :'(  I guess those baby maters got too heavy for the vine, and the entire plant fell over.  They have outgrown the stakes Jack had placed by them.  I am really second guessing my decision not to buy tomato cages. What was I thinking?

I added a few more stakes to the ground, and carefully tied the plant back up into position.  Tonight I will be watching some Youtube videos on how to properly prune tomatoes.

My transplanted peppers from yesterday seem to be recovering as well.  Even the one that Blake accidentally decapitated is still green where it needs to be.  There may be hope for the little pepper plant.

The good thing about the Kentucky Bean plant growing so fast is that it is helping hold up my cherry tomatoes and helping the yellow squash leaves stay off the ground.  It is my very own natural support system.

In other news, Thelma, my Wellsummer chicken, seems much better today.  She still rests more than forages, but her limp is much improved.  She is definitely healing from whatever injury she managed to get poor dear.  Thank God!

The pepper transplants...
My poor tomato collapsed under all the weight of the maters.
Everything back where it belongs...
If I had this many babies hanging off of me, I am sure I would be on the ground too!

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

July 21, 2015 - We Have Maters!

I love checking the garden first thing in the morning, everything is so fresh and green.  This morning I was very excited to see that we have so many tomatoes blooming!  All of the varieties I planted have new tomatoes on them too.  We also have a big beautiful green bell pepper.  And of course, lots and lots of yellow squash.  :)

The chickens enjoy their morning in the garden too.  Thelma seems to be feeling much better this morning.  She still has a slight limp, but is definitely getting around a little more.  Yay!

Some photos from this morning...

July 19, 2015 - The Year Of The Yellow Squash

Another delightfully peaceful week in my world.  I love it when that happens.  The weather has been nice and mild, with clear skies and perfect temperatures.

Garrett, Brandon, Amber, Cooper, Penny, Casey and Blake are doing well, and that makes me happy. Jack and I are doing great too.

The jungle...erhmmm, garden, continues to grow well.  The yellow squash has definitely taken over all three of my planting boxes.  It is a good thing I LOVE squash!  I am getting big beautiful yellow squash this first year.  The tomatoes have exploded too, but are not ready for picking just yet.  Garrett and Blake are keeping a close eye on my Kentucky Pole Beans. Every time they find a bean, they pluck it and eat it.  The plant itself is HUGE, and looks beautiful, but is definitely going to produce a lot of beans.  It is hard to believe that it all started from a few little seeds I planted.

The plants that are not doing so great are all my jalapeño and pepper plants in the main garden.  The other plants are choking them out.  I think I am going to try to transplant them to another location.  The worst that can happen is that they don't survive the move, but they are not surviving in the garden anyway.  I do have one pepper in the second garden that is doing well.  I also need to start a new herb garden.  You can never have enough basil and cilantro!

This gardening has definitely been a learning experience, and a hobby I have truly enjoyed. :)

The chickens continue to grow and thrive.  I am worried about my Welsummer chicken, Thelma.  She has a been limping this week.  :'(  Poor dear will run out of the coop with the other chickens to free range, but once she has done a little foraging, she has to lay down.  When it is time to put the chicks back in their coop, I carry her in.  I don't see any obvious injury on her, and she is eating and drinking fine.  I am hoping she has simply sprained something, and will heal up on her own.  She is not getting worse, so far so good.  I do love that chicken.

Casey has been living the farm life.  He got a job driving a big truck at a farming operation in southeastern Idaho.  He is working long days, but is loving it so far.  He came home last night and spent the night, then was back to the farm today.  I am super proud of him.  This is just what he needed right now, to get out of the city, and get some fresh air and some good hard work!  Here are some pictures he sent me from his iPhone...

Have a great Monday everyone...and a great week ahead.

Some photos I took of my world during the week...

Yellow squash everywhere!

The squash is growing almost as fast as Blake's mustache.  <grin>
