May 22, 2015 - Happy Memorial Day Weekend!
Happy Memorial Day weekend!
The weather was so beautiful today. I am hoping this beautiful day will carry through the weekend.
Blake has a three day weekend, yay! I just wish we could do more. Specifically, cycling. He was dancing around in the living room Wednesday night, celebrating that he was feeling so much better, and he tripped on his own two feet. Yep, he came crashing down on his left side. Gave me a heart attack! His shoulder has been really sore. It served as a good reminder that he needs to take it easy. Just because he is feeling better does not mean the fracture has healed. That is going to take time.
I am hoping to get the chicken coop finished this weekend. The chicks LOVE being outside, but I can't leave them unattended in the yard. I would be very upset if anything happened to them. For now it is a couple of hours of free ranging at least one time a day. They will be happy to be outside full time soon.
Today I got an email from Louie the Rooster's new owner Sarah. I was SO happy to hear from her! She said Louie is doing well, and she will be adding some chicks to his flock today. I know King Louie will be very happy. :)
Some pictures from my world...
My yard is looking so green and beautiful. I love it!
I could probably let him range with them, because I know he would never hurt them, but he is so big! He might send them airborne with one wag of his mighty tail.
For now they get to be friends with a fence dividing them.
Miss Lilly the Chicken Hawk.
She takes her chicken guarding responsibilities very seriously.
Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.
Peace.

May 21, 2015 - Has Anyone Seen My Bike?
It has been almost 30 days since my last bike ride. :'( I miss it! My bike is the first thing I see every morning when I come downstairs. It is calling to me..."Come on mama, let's ride!"
With all the gardening, and chicken farming, my cycling has fallen by the wayside. As soon as this rainy spell passes, I need to get back on my bike. I start to feel really blue, and I know that is why. Unfortunately, it will be a while before Blake is ready to cycle with me. At least not until his shoulder heals completely. But that is okay, mama can ride alone. I have done it a few times, and it is a great mental health break. We all need that every now and then. :)
Photos from my world...
Blake is really sore today after that fall he took last night. Thelma is helping to keep his mind off his broken wing.
Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.
Peace.

May 20, 2015 - It Was a Lovely Day for Frolicking
We have had rain almost every day for the last week! It has been great for the garden. Everything is so green.
The hens have adjusted fine without their Louie the rooster. I do believe they are happier, and definitely more calm.
Blake's shoulder was doing better. He was getting around just fine, and the pain has been pretty much gone. This evening he was dancing around the living room, tripped over his own two feet and landed on his left side. OMG, we both had a heart attack! It hurt like heck, but I don't think he made it worse. Poor kid. I think it may be time to wrap him in bubble wrap. The good news is there is only just over a week of school left until summer vacation. Yay!!!
In most exciting news, Amber's Kickstarter for her desert truck went live!! I am so proud of her! Please CLICK HERE for more information. "Good luck Amber and Joie!!"
Some photos from my world yesterday and today...
My Mandarin Honeysuckle, a gift from Casey, is blooming, and is so beautiful!
All my roses are in bloom, and the yard smells heavenly!
Miss Lilly doing what she does best...frolicking. :)
The hens, just chilling.
Dozer. :)
Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.
Peace.

May 18, 2015 - Good-Bye Louie...Louie
It is official, Louise the lovely Egyptian Fayoumis chicken, is definitely Louie. Not only is he starting to crow, his behavior is very "rooster" like. He is getting really pushing with my hens.
So I placed an ad and offered him to any farmers looking for an awesome rooster. This morning I woke to several requests, so I picked the one that felt the best. A young lady in Nampa, Idaho who lives on 3 acres. She was driving to Mountain Home Idaho this evening to pick up a steer, so we offered to meet her in Boise as they are driving back through to go home. She sounds perfect.
I am sure Louie will do just fine on his new 3 acres of land. We are sure going to miss him though. He really is a beautiful rooster.
Blake and I spent the afternoon in the garden with Louie this afternoon. Here are some photos from my world today...
Louie the rooster.
Louie and the girls.
The lovely Annabelle.
Miss Thelma.
Squirrel! This little guy comes to visit me everyday. I have named him Bartholemew. My neighbor leaves out peanuts for him.
Dozer watching the chickens through the gate.
Miss Lilly.
So much green!
Apple mint and strawberries.
Romaine lettuce.
The Blue Wyandotte sisters, Rosie and Annabelle.
Blake found some good bug friends.
Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.
Peace.

Bye Louie!
