September 21, 2015 - Garden Omelettes

Between Miss Annabelle, and the garden, we are having some fresh veggie omelettes for dinner tonight.  Her eggs have been so perfect, and I had a nice mini harvest of tomatoes and peppers this evening.  Now all I need to do is get a goat...and make some cheese.

I do love my little urban farm.  :)

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

Peace.

September 13, 2015 - Good-Bye Summer!

What a warm weekend we have had.  Just when I thought summer was over...*bam*, two days in the upper 90's.  But not to worry!  The weatherman said we will have highs in the 60's next week.  That sounds much more "Autumn" to me.

This has been a good, peaceful week here at home.  The garden is still producing tomatoes and summer squash like crazy, and the peppers are starting to come in.  Speaking of peppers, this evening I plucked a beautiful pepper from the vine.  I thought it was a sweet banana pepper, so I took a bit bite.  YIKES!  It was NOT a banana pepper!  The capsaicin was strong with that one!

Blake is back to working with Garrett and he loves it!  It is photo-shoot season for the photography company Garrett works for, and they bring Blake on as an apprentice two days a week.  He loves the job, and I am so thankful to Garrett for including his little brother.  Blake will be taking photography next semester too.  He has an amazing eye for photos.

The chickens had a great week too.  Well, at least Annabelle did.  She has given use 5 beautiful eggs so far.  They are small eggs, but so delicious.  The yolks are a deep orange, and they taste amazing.  Well done Annabelle!  Hopefully Rosie and Thelma will start laying soon.

We also celebrated a canine birthday this week.  Ducati turned 10!  That makes two senior citizen canines in the family.  :)

Hope you had an amazing week everyone.

Here are some photos from my world...

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

Peace.

September 2, 2015 - We Had An Eggsciting Day!

Today was a good day in my little urban backyard farm.  Blake checked the chickens after school and discovered our first egg.  Yay!  Annabelle had been hanging out in the nesting box, so I am pretty sure it was hers.  We are very proud of our little Annabelle.  :)
I am so glad it was Blake who found the first egg too.  At first he thought I had added another fake egg to the nesting box so that the girls would know where I wanted them to lay.  But no, it was a real egg.

***Update*** I just cracked the egg open this evening, and it was a delicious double-yoker.  Well done Annabelle!
The next day we found a tiny, whimsical little egg.  But it was perfectly delicious!
It was a great day for tomatoes too.  We had quite the lovely harvest.
Some tomatoes from earlier in the week too...
The pepper plants that I rescued from the main garden are flowering too.
And my little decapitated pepper is really thriving.
We are feeling very blessed today.  :)

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

Peace.

August 23, 2015 - Good-Bye Summer Vacation!

We have really enjoyed our last week of Summer Vacation.  Blake starts school tomorrow, and all the excitement that comes with that.

This past week was very smoky outside due to all the wild fires burning in the northwest, so other than some time in the garden and with the chickens, it was an "inside" sort of week.  Video games it was!

We started Super Mario 3D world on WiiU, and enjoyed a daily session of serious gaming.  Garrett joined us a couple of times, and it was grade-A hilarious!  Let me just say, the phrase of the week was..."Let me get the cat suit!"  More pronounced kad-zoooot.  lol  It was fun, and oh so funny.

My tomatoes are coming in nice and strong.  One night Blake asked me..."What is for dinner mom?" My response..."Tomatoes."  It is a good thing we love tomatoes!  This first year of serious gardening has gone very well for me.  Tomatoes and summer squash have been a smashing success.  Next year I want a huge variety of all my favorite stuff.  I am excited to plan my fall garden too.

My henny pennys are doing well.  Thelma seems to be just about healed from whatever her injury was.  She still has a slight limp, but is getting around much better.  We are still waiting on eggs though.  Garrett has decided that he has to be the one who discovers the first egg.  I think that would be awesome.  I had to laugh the other day because unbeknownst to him I had placed a fake egg in the nesting box so the girls would know where I want them to lay their eggs.  This fake egg looks and feels very real.  When Garrett discovered it, he got so excited!  lol

Today Casey and his girlfriend Brianna took Blake back-to-school shopping.  They bought him a nice Vans backpack. and a very cool hoodie.  "Thank you Casey!"  I have the best sons on the planet.  :)

My week in photos...

Day one...let the gaming commence!
 Smoky skies.
 Fluffy chicken butts...my favorite thing.

Enjoying an evening on my porch swing.
 Miss Thelma.
Smoky sunrise.  The foothills have vanished behind a veil of smoke.
 My beautiful tomatoes.

Blake enjoying some Supra time.

Last day of summer vacation.  We spent the evening in the garden picking dem 'maters.  :)
It is always exciting to go outside and see all these lovely red treasures, hanging in a sea of green leaves. I love gardening!

For dinner I baked some summer squash from the garden, made some macaroni and cheese, chipotle sausage, and added fresh tomatoes and cucumber also from the garden.  It was delicious!

May the new chapter commence!  We are ready.  :)

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

Peace.
