My 365, Day number 1,724.

Hello Dear Family,

Happy Saturday!  Hope you are having an awesome Saturday today.  Blake had an early morning of work with big brother Garrett.  He was up and out the door by 6:30 AM, and so excited to go.  He has worked twice now on photo shoots, and is really enjoying it.  I need to have Garrett take a picture of Blake working.  This is a milestone I definitely want to document.

Things I am not quite ready to hear Blake say...

"Mom, wake me up early...I have to go to work."
"Mom, I am too tired to do that.  I worked all day!"
"Mom, get that for me.  I will pay you back when I get paid."

Yep...too soon, too soon.  :)

I am still dealing with a touch of anxiety today, but it is getting a little easier.  One day at a time, one foot in front of the other.  It can only get better from here...onward and upward! :)

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

My 365, Day number 1,723.

Hello Dear Family,

It happened again, anxiety attack.  From about 3:00 AM this morning, until I finally fell asleep after Blake left for school.  The worst part is the tightness I get in my throat.  It feels like a double-decker bus is trying to drive through my esophagus. Since I could not sleep, a little Internet research helped occupy my mind enough to improve my anxiety a little bit.

One thing I found that makes perfect sense is referred to as Globus Hystericus.  That frightening tightening in the throat feeling is the worst!  The good news is that it is all in my head...my throat is not closing off and I am not about to suffocate to death.  But try telling that to my mind in the midst of a full blown anxiety attack.  I won't believe you.  "Oxygen, I need oxygen!!!"  This also explains what happens to Blake when he gets upset.  He immediately puts his hand to his throat, and tells me that it hurts.  It is definitely an anxiety fight or flight response.  My poor baby, I hate that he experiences it as well.  :(

Gargling with warm salt water helps a little.  Gargling with apple cider vinegar, helps a little.  A quarter teaspoon of cayenne pepper in water...yikes!  All three at the same time...forget about it!  LOL, seriously though, oh my heck?  My nephew gave me some great advice.  He said to put ice in your hands, an ice pack to your face, the back of your neck helps.  I am here to confirm that it really does help.

So why the anxiety?  Life has been great lately.  Granted, my wild child Casey is causing me some stress, but I just have to remind myself that he is 19, and needs to get the "wild child" out of his system.  When I sit down and have a heart to heart conversation with him, I can see that he is fine. All the chaos he creates, and boy does he like chaos, is simply Casey flapping his wings.  He likes to keep us all thinking he is off the rails, when the truth is he is simply being Casey.  Casey has suffered with severe anxiety all of his life, and his response is to fly.  My son has to be in constant motion.  He simply can not sit still, or the anxiety takes him in a choke hold.  He does enjoy the shock factor though...my little turd.  He will be okay...eventually.  :)  Besides, one can never blame another on their own anxiety.  My anxiety is mine to deal with and I have no one else to blame.  OWN IT!

So what is the solution?  This worked for me last night...

Name your Globus!  Okay don't laugh.  I said don't laugh..I know your laughing.  Seriously though, I named my Globus Hystericus, "Gertrude the Hysterical."  This way when I feel like she is causing me a problem, I tell her, "Gertrude!  Chill the hell out you little bitch!" (Excuse my French.)

Music.  Listen to some music.  Find that song that puts you in your happy place.  For me, it is two songs, Something to Believe In, by Parachute and Proud, by Heather Small. Put your songs on repeat, and dance like no one is watching, or just sit and listen. I did that this morning.  The dogs looked so confused.  And hum it.  You can sing it, but the humming relaxes your throat muscles.

Halls honey-lemon throat lozenges work like magic.  They soothe the throat, and add that touch of tingle to your throat when you inhale, so you know it is working.  Your breathing that is.  :)

Finally, drink some warm milk.  It really does help.  I am also suffering from a little reflux these days.  I am pretty sure it is due to a new medication I have been on for my Rheumatoid Arthritis. Reflux definitely exacerbates Globus.  The perfect storm for throat constriction let me tell you.  The warm milk helps with the reflux and relaxation.  And you are swallowing liquid, so you are sending a message to your brain that all is well...swallowing still works.

The most important thing for me is to make other permanent changes in my life.  No food after 9:00 PM, an evening walk before bed, and a nice warm shower too.  I have definitely noticed a change in my spirit since my bike riding has dropped off.  The challenge is overcoming the anxiety enough to want to go outside and exercise.  I know you don't want to hear this, but exercise truly is the key to a healthy life.  Exercise is the magic pill.  You must to keep your body moving.

So pass me some serious goose fraba baby.  Mama needs to chill and remember that everything is going to be alright.  Gertrude the Hysterical is not going to kill me.  I need to let go of the things that I have no control over, and relax.  ~~~~~ohmmmmm~~~~~

Happy Weekend planet!  Have an amazing weekend everyone. If you happen to suffer from anxiety, know that you are not alone.  I am right here with you.
Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

My 365, Day number 1,722.

Hello Dear Family,

Happy Thursday planet!  Today is Blake's first day of work.  What?  Blake is working?  Well, sort of. Big brother Garrett has been working for Illuminations Photography since high school. The company is owned and operated by the family of Garrett's best friend.

The other day Garrett asked me if I thought Blake was ready to start working some school photo shoots with them.  Initially I thought, no way, he is too young.  Then we asked Blake what he thought, and of course he was thrilled.  "What? I get to earn money?  Yeah!"  This evening after school, and after homework, Blake will be going to his first photo shoot and working with big brother Garrett, and the owner.  How cool is that?

Garrett always wants the very best for his little brother Blake, and really looks out for him.  I am so thankful for that. "Thank you Garrett!"  *love*

In other news...Casey got a new job this afternoon.  Yay, way to go son, I am so proud of you! And it is full time, so you will be too busy to get in trouble. Mmmhmm. lol. He also had an appointment with his orthodontist today, and only a few more weeks till his braces come off.  The journey is almost complete!  We are so thankful for his amazing new smile.  :)

Mama is very happy today.  Actually, I am feeling quite fabulous. I love my boys so much, and I love it when everything falls into place for them. So many blessings today.

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

A very happy Casey today.  :)  Eight months, five days since double jaw surgery, and he is doing great!
Blake, off to his first day of work. (Of course I had to document this momentous occasion.) Homework is done, and he is so nervous!

#TBT, this was Christmas 1996.  Casey, child #4 in my arms, and Brandon, child #3 standing.  Seems like a lifetime ago.  :)

My 365, Day number 1,721.

Hello Dear Family,

Blake is barely home from school, he checks his social media, and he is out the door.

"Oh no you didn't!"

"It is a school night.  Do you have homework?  It is too warm to go skateboarding today.  You must be starving, let me make you a snack. What did you learn in school today?"

Yes, this mama is having a hard time adjusting to "my baby being a teenager" thing.  Can someone please turn back the hands of time?  Please?

*sigh*

Blake is awesome.  He is doing great in school.  He gets his homework done.  He is very responsible for a 13 year old male.  He is very much like his big brother Garrett when it comes to his cool nature. Not to say that Brandon and Casey where impossible.  Well, maybe a little bit impossible. Casey...maybe a lot of bit impossible.  "I love you Casey."  :)

Off to the community center he went to hang out with his friends.  Meanwhile, mama sits at home watching the clock.  He said he would be home before 5:00 PM. It is already 4:30 PM.  He will be home soon...

I seriously need a chill pill.

Smothering is never a good method of parenting.  Right?

In other news, Chris and Diana had their baby!  Chris Pirillo is one of my favorite Youtube vloggers, and he and his wife Diana just had their first child.  What is crazy is that he used Twitter to keep us, his community, informed as it happened.  I have never been one for Twitter, but I have to say, I was glued to my Twitter feed all night!  Blake was too...lol  He even mentioned us in his vlog.

Congratulations Chris and Diana!  And welcome to the world baby Jedi Pirillo.  :)

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

My 365, day number 1,720. Yep, I got a little carried away.

Hello Dear Family,

Just another day, and sometimes...just another day...is not such a bad thing.  For some, just another day is not enough.  For me, it is a day to exhale, reconfigure then reboot.  I just have to be certain the backup discs are ready to go, so I can restore the good memories.  The bad memories have been recycled a long time ago.

Breathe in...breathe out...breathe in...you get the point.  :)

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

September 15, 2014

Hello Dear Family,

Well hello there Monday.  I am a wee bit disappointed in you today.  A high of 90°f?  What are you thinking bringing Summer back for a visit?  I did not authorize this!  Would you be so kind as to escort that bugger of a season back into the season closet where it belongs?  Thank you kindly Monday.

Yes...I forgive you.

No worries, I have not finally gone bonkers.  I love Autumn so much...and I dislike Summer so much, that I get a little testy.  I need my Autumn fever back to lift my spirits and keep them lifted.

It was a beautiful day today...just a little too warm for a Boise September.  Looks like the entire week is going to be the same.  (Sad panda face.)  I was hoping I could give the air conditioner an early retirement party.  It seems that may have to wait a bit.

Hope you had an amazing day everyone!

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

September 14, 2014

Hello Dear Family,

Happy Sunday planet!  How's you head, how's your heart?  Good?  Awesome!

Today is a day of laundry and homework.  I love homework...said no one ever.  It is not that bad. This evening Blake had a lot of World Studies and English, two of my favorite subjects.  As long as he is not asking me for help in math, I am a-okay with homework.

Today is also the anniversary of "The Star Spangled Banner," written by Francis Scott Key.  I stumbled on this great video about the meaning of the song.  It is pretty amazing.  I recommend we all watch it, to appreciate that awesome that this country is all about.  God bless America.

Have a great Monday everyone.  We have a lot going on this week, and I know it is going to be amazing!

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.
