June 25, 2015 - First Harvest! Sort of...

I am so excited!  My first two cherry tomatoes!

I know that is ridiculously silly of me, but exciting none-the-less.  I will probably throw a full on party to celebrate my first cucumber.

The garden is looking amazing, and the chicken coop is complete.  This summer gardening/backyard chicken thing is a lot of fun.  :)

Jack, Garrett, Blake and I are loving it!
The forecast for the coming weekend looks horrendously hot!
It will be a full-time job trying to keep the chickens nice and cool.

I am ready for Autumn already.

In other news...these silly boys.  :)

Random backyard s'mores on a Thursday at midnight because...big brother is just cool like that.

I love my boys. <3

Never a dull moment...

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

Peace.

June 21, 2015 - Happy Father's Day!

Happy 29th Father's Day to Jack.

Honey, thank you for blessing me with five amazing children.  You work hard, you provide, and you are always there for our wonderful sons, and for that I love you so freaking much!

Happy Father Day to you too Brandon!  You are an amazing father to Cooper and Penny. Daddy and I are so proud of the man, the father, that you have become.  We love you with all our hearts! Hope your day is perfect honey.

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

Peace.

June 19, 2015 - A Good Day For Cycling

I was sitting at my desk yesterday afternoon, applying sun screen. Blake looks at me curiously and asks, "Why the heck are you putting on sunscreen mom? You are inside?"

My response..."If I apply sunscreen, I may as well go for a bike ride, right? I think this is called being proactive?"

Blake replies..."No mom, Proactiv is what you apply for blackheads and zits."

Really son? Are you kidding me right now? Truth be told, Blake is a little nervous to take his first right after his clavicle fracture, bless his heart. But we have to get back on the bike!

The weather was perfect!  High in the mid 80's, and not a cloud in the sky.  I was determined to get a ride in, as I had not touched my bike since April.  At my age, exercise is so important.

Just as I was ready to ride, I could see that Blake was not feeling it at all.  Jack had the day off, and the last thing he wanted to do was take a long bike ride.  I completely understood, but was not going to waste such a gorgeous day, so a solo ride it would be.  Funny thing is, about five minutes after I left both daddy and Blake took off on their bikes, frantically trying to find me.  They worry too much!

I really enjoyed my solo ride.  I did have to stop a few times to rest, which was a bit frustrating and new for me. I was not feeling any joint or muscle pain, but I was feeling really fatigued.  I hate how quickly my stamina diminishes when I slow down my activity levels.  I have to keep cycling part of my regularly scheduled program.

I managed 10.01 miles.  When it was time to ride back up the hill home, I called Garrett and Blake to come pick me up.  Partially so I could treat them to dinner, and partially because that ride back up hill is a doozy!  :)

Here are some pictures from my adventure yesterday..

I also decided it was time to clip the chicken's wings.  They were starting to jump up on the fence, and that is entirely too dangerous.  My neighbor has several dogs that would not hesitate to eat my girls.

I had two options, clip their primary flight feathers, or keep them in their chicken coop 24/7. I love letting them free range in the yard, so number two was not an option.  With help from daddy and Garrett, they got their fist clipping.  It was a very quick and easy process, and they did not mind at all. Now I don't have to worry about them flying into trouble.

 They recovered pretty quickly.  :)

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

Peace.

June 17, 2015 - Garden Update!

My garden is looking beautiful!  Jack built me two new little planter boxes yesterday, and I was able to plant the last of my seedlings, and some new tomatoes and peppers he an Blake bought me over the weekend.  Jack has worked so hard on the garden for me this year.  I really appreciate him.

We have all enjoyed working on the garden, and working with the chickens. I look forward to it every day.  I am so thankful to Garrett for getting us going on these projects.  It has been awesome!

Here are some photos from my world today...

Blake is strengthening his injured shoulder...or inspecting the grass, I am not sure which?
Miss Lilly, always watching over everything.

We have a fox in the hen house!  Silly Blake, always doing things the hard way.
 Goldflame Honeysuckle.

Who needs a lawnmower when you have chickens?  Annabelle keeping the lawn trimmed.  :)
My new planter with my new peppers and tomatoes.  I also planted some basil and cilantro in this box.

Thelma, my Welsummer chickie, thinks she is a scarecrow...silly girl.

The second planter Jack made for me with my cucumber and squash seedlings.
I love chicken eyes, they are so cool.  Here is Rosie looking intense and fierce.  She is still getting her head feathers in, so she looks a bit like a gremlin.  I have to remember not to water her at night...lol
Thelma, strutting her stuff as usual.
A photo from yesterday.  Garrett relaxing after a long hot day of working, and the chickens keeping him company.  :)

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

Peace.
